Good report, Andy. That will save me doing chapter and verse to Dallas. Calvin, it was exactly as Andy has described. Just to add that the mental at the end was one of the best I've ever experienced. It was great to be a Stokie saturday. Reminiscent of the old days and how long is since we could say that? The old days. ;)

Oi...the hug was because we met again and not because we had won. It was great to see you again fella. Sorry about the mixup with the meeting arrangements. I'd also arranged to meet with JimmyG, Jezza, yourself and Macca. I managed to meet you and Jezza briefly and spent the afternoon with Macca. I missed JimmyG altogether. I need to mail him.

Take care.

I decided to relax and read some Sunday papers today for a change, I don't normally get the chance. Flicking through some of the reports while I was browsing at the supermarket, I saw one mention that Stoke's last top flight victory was in March 1985 against Arsenal. Appropriately to complete the historic sequence I was at that match and at the first victory following the return to the top flight some 23 years later. Somewhere in the BBC archives is MOTD footage showing two young lads in blue Parkas standing in the rain on the Boothen End at the Victoria Ground watching Stoke score a penalty against Arsenal while the rest of the crowd stands further back under the roof. Those lads were Ianrb (of Oatcake Messageboard infamy) and myself. I got a right telling off from my Mother when she saw that later on the telly and that we'd been daft enough to get wet rather than relinquish our decent view and stand with the rest of the heaving masses! :-o Where has the time gone? It's along wait for your next top flight win eh?!

Calvin - at this rate what with your kind words, and Winger's weekly links to my reports rather than writing his own, I might consider pursuing a career in journalism! ;-) Are there any vacancies at the Jacksonville Joke?! :-o

We did drop back and it has been one of our characteristics, but I think in this case there was a lot of back-peddling simply under the pressure from Villa and their pace and movement in the second half. It might have been a different story if they had started like that. Luckily they wandered around the pitch as if turning up was enough to see off little Stoke and collect their weekly fortunes.

An absorbing read, Andy. We must stop dropping back every time we take the lead, thus letting sides back into the game. There won't always be a last-gasp winner to give us the three points. I am more hopeful for the rest of the season than I was after last Saturday.
